1.Upgrade from the free theme version without losing any customization #

In order to upgrade from your free theme to the pro version, you simply need to replace all the files in your current free theme folder (such as wp-content/themes/kale or wp-content/themes/vega) with the new ones from the pro theme zip installation file that you downloaded from your LyraThemes.com account.

Extract the pro theme zip file on your computer. Log into your hosting via FTP and simply overwrite all the files in your theme folder with the ones from this newly downloaded / extracted package.

You can use a free FTP tool such as FileZilla. You will need an FTP username and password, which should be available in your hosting control panel. Or you can contact your hosting support for the FTP credentials.

Things to keep in mind:

  • In order to keep the settings from your free version, make sure that the folder name for the free version and the pro version are the same.
  • If your free theme is installed in a folder wp-content/themes/kale then you should upload the files from the pro package kale-pro.zip into the same folder.
  • If you are uploading the pro theme using FTP, simply overwrite the old free theme folder with the folder from the new pro package.
  • We recommend backing up all files and the database before performing the theme upgrade.

2.Update the theme to the latest version (Pro only) #

After you install the theme and have used it for a few days, you may get a notification on your dashboard saying that there is a theme update available. That will happen when we make changes, updates, and fixes to the theme. It is best to update your theme as soon as possible after you see the update notification.

In order to update your theme to the latest version, please follow the instructions herePlease note – clicking “Update Now” for this theme will not work. We currently do not support automatic theme updates (this is in the works). If you do click the “Update Now” button, you will see something like this: “Update Failed: Update package not available”.

Updating the theme requires you to basically overwrite all the files in your current theme folder with the ones from the latest package which can be downloaded from your LyraThemes account.

Please note: if you purchased the theme from MOJO Marketplace or ThemeForest, please log into your account there and download the theme again. The file will contain the latest version of the theme.

The theme installation file will come as a zip file, for example vega-pro.zip or kale-pro.zip. Extract the zip file on your computer. Log into your hosting via FTP and simply overwrite all the files in your theme folder with the ones from this newly downloaded package. For a detailed tutorial on how to do this, click here.

3.Fix uneven thumbnail sizes to match the theme default image sizes #

In order to make your existing images compatible with the theme display and make them show up uniformly, please install and activate the Regenerate Thumbnails  https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/ plugin. Then go to Tools > Regen. Thumbnails and let the process complete. This will resize all images to match the ideal sizes required by the theme.

4.Change the text that shows up on the home page under featured posts or pages #

In order to explicitly specify an excerpt for a post or a page, go to the page/post edit screen. Click on “Screen Options” in the top right. See this screenshot.

It would open a ‘drawer’ like this. Make sure “Excerpt” is checked.

Now scroll down to see the “Excerpt” field – it should be after the content editor. Whatever you enter in here will be shown on the home page and any place where the post/page excerpts are being displayed.

5.Translating the theme to show all text in your own language #

In order to show the words in another language, you’ll need to translate the theme. Following are two great resources that can help:
